Blanca Isabel is a new high yielding, early long-grain rice variety that was developed by Dr. Milton C. Rush, a rice pathologist at LSU, in 1998. It was developed through the natural cross breeding of a common Louisiana long-grain variety of rice (Cypress) and a purple/black kernel variety from Sri Lanka (Hitan Kitan). What resulted was a new variety of rice that has the cooking qualities, texture and taste of long grain white rice, and the health benefits of purple rice.
